Sports Card Radio contest winnings

The guys at Sports Card Radio held a giveaway for a retail box of 10/11 Prestige basketball that I was lucky enough to win. With basketball in full swing, the timing couldn't be better. I thought I'd show of some some of the highlights.

 133/249
300/499

There were a couple of nice Hall of Famer parallels. The Pistol Pete scan came out looking red in the scans, but I assure you it's orange, in case you were worried.

380/499
400/499

I don't follow the Grizzlies or the Raptors (thank God) so I don't know much about how either of these dudes are doing, but I do know a little about this guy:

406/999

I'm a Cousins fan. The guy is a rebounding machine. He's known for having a little bit of an attitude problem, but I could care less about that. It's not like he punches kids in the face, or anything. I think that part of his problem was how Paul Westphal was using him and now that Westphal's gone, Cousins is lighting it up.

225/499
159/499

They also threw in a little bonus football card:

168/299
A Gold Standard Gale Sayers. The scan doesn't do justice to the shininess of this card.

Thanks again to Colin and Ryan at Sports Card Radio and subscribe to their podcast if yer looking for something to listen to!

Topps Superbowl Legends Win

I picked up a few packs of 2011 Topps football cards today with the hopes of having something to show off in a post this evening.  The cards themselves are really nice and the photography is always great on the flagship stuff, but other than a Wes Welker, there was nothing to get too excited about.

I did pull two of the Super Bowl Legends Giveway cards with to redeem online and the first one yielded a useless "virtual coin" of the St. Louis Rams. Not really anything to get excited about. So, expecting some more virtual crappiness, I entered the second code and got this:

A die-cut card of  Tommy Boy. Nice. I don't know what the checklist for these cards are, but I'm certain I got the one that I would have wanted the most. After an awful Sunday (fucking Pittsburgh!) , it was nice to get something positive out of the Patriots.

2011/2012 Pinnacle Black Checklist

I dug a little deeper into the Black chase cards (by dug I mean that I went to Panini's blog and read the words and looked at the pictures) and I "discovered" that it's going to be a 14 card set. I realize that this info is a over a month old, but it's new to me and I think these guys look great.

Obviously not every team will be represented, though the Penguins somehow have two players. I'm really not a fan the city of Pittsburgh at the moment, so excuse me if I sound disgruntled with them.

Fucking Steelers.....meh.

The following images were gleefully stolen from Panini

This would be one nice looking set if I could actually afford to track them all down. I think this just might have to be my project for this season.

2011/12 Pinnacle Black

With no basketball card releases on the way, my interest is with football and hockey. There's really nothing in football that's grabbed my attention, but as I was looking at the upcoming hockey releases, 2011/12 Pinnacle caught my eye. Actually, one card in particular :

That is a nice looking card, even if if there is a Penguin on it. These are going to fall 1 per case, so there's no way I'll be tracking down the set, but I'll have to pick at least one up of somebody. I don't know if this is a throwback to an older Pinnacle insert or not. This might be the single best looking card that Panini has put out. Hopefully they won't be printed on super thick card stock that chips. I'm looking at you, Upper Deck.
